FROM THE BEACH
Wetherell on Writing will soon be back from summer vacation, with a slightly different remit for the months ahead. I’ll still be be concerned with books and literature, defending as always the notion of writing as an art form, one of the most difficult to pull off, but I’ll be expanding the boundaries, giving myself permission to write about a wide range of other subjects, from food to music to history to rural life—and who knows what else.
As I Please George Orwell called his miscellaneous, still very enjoyable essays that appeared in a London newspaper back in the early 1950’s. Yes, something relaxed and exploratory in that spirit is what the columns will aspire toward. “Celebrations” I call them, not essays—starting right here on September 10.
In the meantime, have a great summer!
